Course Summary

From 1st October 2009 the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are implementing new guidance for employers on First Aid at Work. This includes changes to the type of training that First Aiders should receive and how employers must carry out a First Aid Needs Assessment.




What is changing?


  • The way that you should carry out a First Aid Needs Assessment (employers must do this by law).

  • There are now two types of approved First Aider.

  • The introduction of annual refresher training.

Who Should Attend?

Anyone requiring training as an emergency first aider at work (as defined in HSE guidelines). This course is also suitable for individuals who want to attend a short first aid course for other reasons.

Course Content

This interactive course is devised in accordance with the revised UK resuscitation council guidelines (2005) and covers a variety of first aid subjects including:



  • Planning for an emergency

  • Incident management

  • Management of the unconscious casualty

  • CPR

  • Wounds/Bleeding/Shock

  • Heart Attack

  • Burns and Scalds

  • Poisoning

  • Contents of a First Aid Kit

  • Record Keeping/Legislation

Assessment

Participants are continuously assessed throughout the 6-hours.

The HSE now recommend Annual Refresher training for all first aiders and emergency first aiders.

In addition to our regular ‘open' first aid training courses, we can also arrange to run a course specifically for you at a venue of your choice. This may be your own premises or another suitable location that is convenient for you.
