Course Summary

From 1st October 2009 the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are implementing new guidance for employers on First Aid at Work. This includes changes to the type of training that First Aiders should receive and how employers must carry out a First Aid Needs Assessment.


What is changing?
  • The way that you should carry out a First Aid Needs Assessment (employers must do this by law).
  • There are now two types of approved First Aider.
  • The introduction of annual refresher training.

First Aid at Work is a 3 day course approved by the Health and Safety Executive, teaching participants about management of a medical emergency in the workplace.

All participants receive a course book to support learning.

Price includes course book refreshments and certification. 

Who Should Attend?

Anyone requiring training as a first aider at work (as defined in HSE guidelines). This course is also suitable for individuals who want to attend a comprehensive first aid course for other reasons.

Course Content

The syllabus is very interactive and comprehensive, covering subjects including:

  • CPR
  • Unconsciousness
  • Bleeding/Wounds/Shock
  • Fractures/Sprains/Strains
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Eye injury
  • Gas or fumes inhalation
  • Poisoning
  • Minor and Major illnesses
  • Safe transportation of a casualty
  • Contents of a first aid kit
  • Record-keeping/legislation

Assessment

Participants must undertake a formal assessment on completion of the course.

The HSE now recommend Annual Refresher training for all first aiders.

In addition to our regular ‘open' first aid training courses, we can also arrange to run a course specifically for you at a venue of your choice. This may be your own premises or another suitable location that is convenient for you.
