Safer Manual Handling (People)
Health & Safety courses are currently only available in house. At present the minimum attendance is 6 people, the maximum is 12.
Who Should Attend?
This course is suitable for all persons involved in the moving and handling of people.
This 6-hour course is designed to give an introduction or up-date in the safer manual handling of people. It embraces the current guidelines set out in The Guide to the Handling of People (5th Edition) and complies with current legislation.
Course Content
The course includes both theory and practical sessions to educate participants in safer moving and handling techniques and problem-solving approaches to manual handling situations.
- Current legislation and professional guidelines
- Mechanics and function of the spine
- The importance of back care and good posture, and the risk factors of back pain
- Risk assessment and Hazard Identification
- Problem solving
- Handling strategies for clients with impaired mobility
- Principles of normal human movement and promotion of client independence
- Use of equipment
The course aims to meet the needs of your particular workplace, and can be adapted to ensure this is the case.
On completion of training participants receive a certificate valid for one year. All participants receive a course book to support learning.
